We start all our own youngsters in house, from unhandled to first shows. We have excellent facilities for starting young horses including a round pen ideal for teaching lunging, backing and riding away in a safe and controlled environment.
As each horse is different we use a mix of conventional and natural horsemanship techniques depending on the needs of the horse we are working with at the time. We have started several horses for disabled riders and we are happy to discuss specific requirements.
We start horses in simple tack and most our own will stay in the bit and bridle we start them in for the start of their competition careers, if not further. We do not use breaking saddles, the horses are broken in correctly-fitting saddles that they are then ridden in day to day to really start them off on the right foot.
