Rio
16.2hh 9yo black KWPN gelding Vleut (Quick Star) x Ferro.
Tall, dark and handsome with the most amazing temperament - Rio really is the full package and truly one in a million. A real favourite on the yard amongst the whole team and part of the family.
Rio is the ultimate amateurs competition and leisure horse. He is well established, trustworthy, bold, straightforward and pretty! He isn't a high drive horse so is indifferent as to whether he is in a competition home or a happy hacking leisure home.
Rides very well on the flat with 3 expressive, uphill paces. Straight and correct, plenty of presence, would certainly do BD and shouldn't need much riding for a sub 30 BE test. Lateral work, medium work and flying changes. However! You do need to be able to ride a horse forward from your leg into a nice contact, or at least be willing to learn as his default position is to be above the verticle. For someone who can ride this isn't an issue but if you find a horse with a high head carriage intimidating and you don't know what to do about it then he is not for you. He is not a robot or a machine, if you ride him nicely he will go beautifully, gives you the most amazing feeling and is a real pleasure to ride. If you only know kick and pull, or have the feel and effectiveness of a wet noodle then you will struggle to get a tune. For someone wanting to take their riding to the next level and is willing to learn about riding kindly and correctly he would be the ultimate schoolmaster.
For jumping Rio is a real professional and such a confidence giver. He is super bold and careful both showjumping and cross country. He has excellent length of stride for cross country and is easily in the money in a jump off without needing to push or take any risks. Has done some BE with a previous owner. Has done elite level Pentathlon at 1.10m, an absolute testament to his incredible temperament and ability. Scope for at least Foxhunter. Clever, quick thinking and athletic. Ideal as an introductory competition horse or for someone who wants the chance to move a drama free horse up the levels.
A gentleman in all environments. He is the one everyone wants to take hacking, to their first competition, to the local hunter trial etc. Excellent both alone and in company, in open fields and on the roads. He is a real go anywhere, do anything type of horse and nothing phases him. Absolutely no vices and nothing sharp, silly or quirky about him. Happily living out in a herd in summer and in during the winter. Good to do in the stable, very affectionate and loves a cuddle but isn't mad keen on lots of grooming and mollycoddling. Ideal for teenager or competitive amateur for looking for a straightforward, talented horse for affiliated competition or riding club.
Very sad sale of a much loved horse, all enquiries will be throughly vetted before being allowed to view and if the right home isn’t found he will be kept on. Please call in the first instance to discuss - messages, e-mails and texts will NOT be answered.
